It’s now Friday night. Late Tuesday night until Thursday evening was the latest Woot-Off at Woot!
It was okay. Missed out on the Bag o’ Crap/Random Crap (BOC), though I did get a Bandolier of Carrots T-Shirt. It’s pretty cool.
Of course, that requires explanation:
The Woot admins, in all their..hilarity, have forum word filters set up, of varying stupidity.
‘wtf?’ gets turned into ‘paaaaAAAnnncAAAAkkkkes!!!’ (that’s fairly close).
‘crap’ becomes ‘carp’…others too.
Various forms of BOC, b.o.c. and boc get turned into varying forms (Blogging Old CEOs, Bandolier of Carrots (!!) and others).
Anyway, during the Woot-Off, Woot put up a Side-Woot to shirt.woot, where they woot shirts. I had actually ordered the shirt right before the Side-Woot got put up, so I probably ordered one of the first ones.
In any case, with the hundreds or thousands of Woot users waiting for Bags o’ Crap/Carp, they’re almost impossible to get (with ~4500 up at one time for Woot-Offs, I think). There was an almost Woot-Off Killer in the form of a blood-pressure monitor right before the BOCs (it was up for an hour to hour 3/4, which is looooooong for a Woot-Off). I saw it really quick, but I couldn’t even get to the ‘Confirm number’ screen. Kept getting ‘Server Too Busy’ messages.
Which, seriously, is awful when your first newsletter in the entire year? Yeah, it was to tell about the Woot-Off. And some people stayed up for the entire thing. So, I was slightly annoyed I didn’t get at least one, though it was in the middle of the day PDT.
Why are they so popular? They’ve handed out LCD HDTVs off and on. You can buy up to three bags (which is the same with any item on Woot, up to 3 of the current product), for $1 a piece, a single flat fee of 5$ shipping (which applies to ALL Woot items (’cept shirt.woot (free, or 5$ for overnight/international) and maybe wine.woot (don’t know for that)), including computers and 200+ pound HDTVs).
So, yeah, some people got HDTVs for 6-8 bucks.
In any case, I’m looking forward to the Bandolier of Carrots shirt. It’s gonna be awesome. Especially since some people almost had heart-attacks thinking it was the actual Bag o’ Crap up for sale.
Those came up about two-two.5 hours later, instead.
